Food isn't just fuel for the body, it also forms a significant part of our everyday lives. Eating is one of the most social events in our society – it can be a focus for special occasions and celebrations, and is often the only opportunity for family time together.
What we eat every day has a big impact on our health – in fact, eating well is one of the most important things we can do to improve and help protect our health. No single food provides us with all the nutrients we need, so it is important to eat a wide variety of foods.
By eating well, we can help prevent many of the health problems that are common in Northern Ireland today such as cancer, heart disease, obesity and high blood pressure.
This site is aimed at adults aged 18 years and over. It includes nutrition information through the life stages including pregnancy, breastfeeding and if you are a vegetarian. It also contains information for parents on what infants, children and adolescents need to help them grow and reach their full potential.
We have included a recipe section with tried and tested tasty recipes. Over the coming months we will be adding more recipes, so why not send in some of your own.
You can also send us your questions relating to food, nutrition and health. Although we cannot send individual responses, we do have a Frequently Asked Question section so watch out for a reply here.
If you want some help with your eating habits, check out ‘How do you rate your diet?' This questionnaire is quick and easy to complete and will give you helpful tips on how to eat better for your health.
We hope you find the site interesting and enjoyable, and we look forward to hearing from you!
